Yup, it's not always easy to differentiate them.
I bought all my Odin 1.5 ICs (with the rhodium plugs) from the same vendor, having saved the link, and always received the same cables, the same quality. I tried oNCE a cheaper link and ended up with the same looking connectors, but of the locking kind, and less cores on the cables. Not bad, but nos as good.
I've bought the two sets of Odin speaker cable I own (bi-amping) from two different vendors and they are ALMOST identical, only the sleeve around the banana plugs is a little bit different, both are great.
Gold ICs seem to have the most discrepancies. My first pair came with plastic holoplugs that are actually built like the genuine (low mass connector, (-) connects through a thin circle of metal) and sounds great. The other ones, from another vendor, came with metal plugs that are just regular RCA plugs that LOOK like holoplugs... from the outside. Thick center pin, thick (-) blades, and impossible to unscrew the body to check how it's been soldered. The wire is identical.
Can you post the link of your good sounding Gold IC, and the one for the bad sounding ones? I'm curious! Thanks
