First though you may minimize the room and setup out of the equation this has little/nothing to do with how "good" listeners will percieve your speaker to sound in the first place. I'm thinking Mirage.

Secondly any costs or design considerations required for this "flexibility" will likely detract from the systems overall quality/performance for the dollar. Nothing is free - a speaker designed specifically for a particular room size/placement will likely outperform one that's configurable to perform it's best in a variety of locations.
