I think there are too many people here who are overly concerned about how they're perceived as engineers or technical gurus. So much so that they'll go as far as discrediting others to bolster that impression. The topic of discussion often becomes roadkill whenever this occurs.
The problem is that such behavior is often associated with either the inability or lack of confidence to simply explain technical concepts and ideas. And even people without a technical background pick up on that.
