A 45SE tube power amp without NFB measures over 5% THD, but sounds so much better than a SS power amp which measured thousand times better. Why? We have been measuring the wrong data since day one.


There is your problemyou are attempting to create an objective statement of fact out of a subjective opinion, no can do. Do 45SE tube power amps with no NFB sound audibly superior to their SS counterparts, of which there are various circuits, maybe or may not. That question can only be answered in controlled listening tests such as DBTs. In wider world though, the question has fallen off the radar screen, technology has moved on leaving the high-end to wallow in the nostalgia of obsolete technology.
