RE: JPlay discussion continues on Computer Audiophile.

Hey Carc,

Do you realize the power you have? I read most of that crap and even the stupid HA link (love the user who flipped because jplay wouldnt play mp3s :)). Thanks Carc for the wasted time.

Cics was ahead of his time and it is nice to see others catching up.

Though I have issues with alot of what was posted and jplay is not for me due to lack of asio support, lack of vst, and lack of xp support. And while hibernation mode sounds like a good idea it really sucks if the phone rings...

Also this got me:

Jplay doesn't support ASIO and we are not planning to add it. ASIO was developed to meet requirements of the pro industry and works best for recording rather than playback. For playback under Windows there is nothing better than Kernel Streaming. Kernel Streaming offers much lower latency. It is the lowest audio engine level in Windows, allowing more efficient, real-time streaming and requires less CPU time. It doesn’t even need Audio, Windows Audio Endpoint Builder and Multimedia Class Scheduler services running. For the ultimate playback experience, we highly recommend using KS. Note that using KS in Jplay allows for streaming music samples one at a time to DAC (buffer size at 1 sample). We are very confident that playback with lowest latency provides better sound quality.

I recall that asio actually allowed for lower latency, and it is clear that asio doesnt need all the services running either.

Cut to razor sounding violins
