I met Brian in Denver in 1988 I think it was. We talked for a bit there and met him again after the SMiLE show in Ann Arbor Michigan in 2004. I actually have a recording of a conversation because friends didn't believe it. Therefore I can back-up my previous statement about Brian listening to the master tapes from 66, re-learning all the parts, writing the 3rd movement and re-recording it. It's all on my multi-track...LOL..what else would a musician record a conversation to, right? He's cool, like taking to anyone else except he has more enthuisiasm than most folks.....more passion. Of course I was nervous as hell talking to him....wouldn't you be? He's not mentally gone like many suggest. He remembered our previous meetings, both in Denver and in Ann Arbour. He told me that back in 66 the recording studio was a limiting factor to his creativity (think 3 & 4 track recorders). I'm pretty sure that was an influencing factor to shelve SMiLE, although Capitol did have an early 8 track machine at that time, I believe. People like Don T don't get Brian's music and thats fine. I just wish he would keep his childish comments to himself.
I'd love to chat with Tony Asher, i'm sure he would be an interesting fellow. Or Steven Kalinich for that matter. I have had some correspondence with Mark Linett, Brian's engineer of many years. Very nice guy willing to share his expertise with others. From what i'm told, the Wilson-McCartney thing is pretty dead, though it would be an awesome combo. Right now Brian is talking about retiring at least from touring. He is still open to recording and talks about a rock and roll album. He is also featured on a cd by his daughter's (Carnie) new childrens cd and in better voice now than in decades. His SMiLE dvd is astonishing, isn't it? You get a better grasp of all thats going on when you can SEE it as well as hear it, no? Nice chatting with you.......aloha
