Sure, they have discovered the problem which has manifested itself in several symptoms. It was traced to a board manufacturing problem where the wave soldering had caused some flakey behavior. This info has been posted a couple of times already.
Rega has repaired every unit sent to them for repair and will continue to repair any that are brought to their attention. You may still hear of a few units which require repair as boxes of NOS are opened. Obviously, they can't fix anything that they do not have to test or that has not been brought to their attention.
The units were released initially as they did pass their initial testing and random units operated perfectly. A small percentage of units were found to behave erratically and it is in many cases somewhat intermittant, so the bahaviors were not found at first.
Rega has changed the way in which it tests the units which enables them to catch most of the problems now. I don't think that any manufacturer can ever hit a 100% perfect mark for QC as things can change after shipment and handling, but they get good marks from all of their dealers. They have been one of the most trouble-free brands that we have carried over the years and indeed this short flurry of units that slipped through the cracks was an exception. To date, they have repaired every unit sent to them without question and that gives me a good sense of their commitment to service. Before the couple of Apollo units that I had seen with their unique issue, we had only to send one unit in for repair and that was many years ago when the components were in the "clamshell" cases and it was an entry level amplifier. So overall they have been more than consistent with excellent quality, service, and of course excellent sound.
