perspective is changing the longer you listen to the player! Your affection for it seems to be growing. It may have been me whom Bill (KT88) was referring to anonymously in the form letter post. I was one of the earliest purchasers in the U.S. of the Apollo. I also was one one of (if not the first) to highlight the operational issues here on the asylum. I have had contact from Bill regarding the Apollo.
The suspicion that software is at fault is quite a natural conclusion, though incorrect according to Rega dealers like Bill. Anyone who did a search for archives on the topic would have seen quickly that the "software" question was laid to rest many weeks ago, and I was one of the first (if not the first) to post that information. Those who did their homework learned it was a soldering/physical issue, not software.
The real test for Rega will be the Saturn, which is being built as we speak on the same platform as the Apollo. From what Bill has been saying about the more robust testing criteria now in place at the factory, there should be no soldering problems with the Saturn when it becomes available - likely sometime in September.
Alberto, when your dealer works with you to replace this unit, you may want to hold off a few weeks for the exchange and demo the Saturn! I am told by the distributors that it's quite a bit of a step up from the Apollo! Knowing Rega's reuptation for building upon excellent sound, I believe it. I trusted my dealer when he proclaimed the Apollo a nice advancement in sound. He was right on! I trust the Saturn will be a wonderful improvement as well.
When I first posted regarding the Apollo's soldering issue, about ten other individuals responded indicating they also experienced the same thing. Have any of those respondees exchanged their Apollo for a newer/perfectly soldered unit? Are they working perfectly? If Apollo owners who've been satisfied with a replacement unit respond in the affirmative, that would alleviate concerns from propsective buyers.
