Re: Finally got my Apollo (cameo post from a vinyl asylum guy)

Hi (insert name here),
The Apollo does not have any software problems and never has. It does have a unique software set and operating system so it behaves differently than any run of the mill players. Being different does not make it defective, so there is some confusion as to what is simply different behavior and what is not working properly. There is no "software upgrade", that was a typo or a misconception by an end user. Isn't the internet great at spreading bogus "factoids". I guess we can all thank Al Gore for that!
Seriously, there have been quite a few players with a real problem that was a physical manufacturing defect, not a software bug. When the software works, it works flawlessly (don't read "like other players" as it is still unique) but when you get a unit that has the defect, it will not function properly and behave erradically. The issue was a problem with the wave soldering of a couple of chips on the board. Those chips do contain the software, so there is where the confusion is. Unless some dealers have older players, the defective units should be weeded out by now and you should not be getting a unit with problems. no matter the age of the unit, if you buy a new one from an authorised dealer, you have a three year warranty which is more than most other manufacturers can or would be willing to permit. The only reason to be uneasy about a product whos maker gives you a three year parts and service warranty, would be paranoia or bad information. We had only a couple of the initial units with problems and those have been successfully repaired and are working perfectly now.
Perhaps this fellow who started this thread has a used unit (at least if it is the same fellow that I have spoken to a couple of times on the phone, he does). What you should do (as should everyone) is not take any stock in rumor that you read on the net and visit your authorised dealer for a demo. That goes for any piece of equipment. I hear so many times reports of this or that piece of gear being the "bee's knees" only to discover that it is trash when I actually get to experience it first hand. There is no teacher like experience. Our demo units work perfectly here and you can see that first hand at any dealer who displays them. You can also hear how they sound in relation to other products that are available there. No need for guesswork, just give one a listen.
