to return to the original discussion topicyou asked an open question as to what people thoughts where about the reason for a phenomenom. this phenomenom consists of people hearing a larger difference with discs treated with the chip when listening casually and off axis from the ideal listening position. points 1 thru 4 cover my casual musings on this and i will repeat them for your consideration. point 5 pondered on the reasonings for your post which i thought relevant at the time
1/ the chip alters the disc on a musical level rather than physical hence critical listening / measurement find no differences but casual listeners asked to comment easily hear the improvement. no doubt the effect is like a band hiring a new guitarist / the orchestra getting a new conductor2/ the chip actually works but only when you are day dreaming
3/ people are getting really desperate to find any difference in the sound quality after using the chip
4/ critical listening allows real differences to be heard, casual listening allows one to relax, soak up the atmosphere and hear whatever you want
