RE: Baffled about computer power

Steve,
I find your thread fascinating, in that you have had some tens of thousands of hours listening to different iterations of all things computer audio, and that something like an improved (Hynes) power supply doing magic on dynamics would still baffle you. I am very pleased that you are not done discovering.

I find computer audio to be a plethora of unsolved discoveries. I mean, even with an electrical mess such as a mini ATX motherboard and Windows platform (Windows server 2012 core, in my example) the fact that throwing a quality 12V Hynes on as a linear ps for the general mobo power...and having it improve almost all aspects of sq...flabbergasts me. I mean, there are so many little but important dc-to-dc conversions downstream, most of them using $.02 parts, how can it have ANY effect? But it's not subtle. And it's not just noise floor.

I can't wait till we design an interface where we can control the quality of power at every dc conversion (mobo, SATA, USB, clock, cpu, yadayada), reduce the OS to minimal services/tasks, and throw a screamingly fast multi-multi-core processor at it (again, for whatever reason it seems paltry music loads still seem to like fast cpus).

Anyway, I love discovery, I hate discovery....but I will continue to ask the stupid questions...and I'm glad you are asking the much-more-than-stupid ones. :)

P.S. Posted on your AC thread. I had Paul make me his first MAc Mini ps, the massive SR7-EHD. I still use it, as I said, dialed down now. Anyway, I hope you import and sell a boatload (of SR5's)!! They are transformational (for whatever reason).
