I use a Mac mini optimized for audio with Pure Music, it has software and firmware that can be upgraded, and it is dead quiet into 107dB efficient speakers.


Sounds pretty much the same as what you have only much less expensive

And I'm not at Naim's mercy for any upgrades or updates

You said I was slave to a "commercial OS" but think about who is really completely dependent on the commercial entity.

My machine will run various versions of Apple OS x, various versions of Windows, and/or various versions of Linux giving me an almost endless variety of streaming programs to use if I so choose. You, on the other hand are locked into whatever Naim decides is best for you.

If I feel the need I can tweak any of these operating systems in an infinite variety of ways while you are locked into whatever Naim decides is best for you.

I can if I choose try various hardware configurations including memory upgrades, power supplies, internal storage options, etc. while you are locked into whatever Naim decides is best for you.

I have infinite options while you have very few.... so who is the slave and who is the master?

I understand why some choose the pre-built streamer route, it is certainly much easier with no real thought having to go into configuring it, but many of us prefer some flexibility. Some prefer much more than I do diving deep into the software and hardware whereas mine is much less tweaked.

I'm not saying like you are that one route is better. I'm saying it is an individual preference and excellent results can be had either way.

I am saying jumping in and dismissing one way or the other out of hand adds nothing to the conversation.
