Replaced aged Aiwa boombox with Maggie 1.6's and Mye stands. Wow, what a difference!
First-time Maggie owner and first-time poster here. Many thanks to all of you Maggie faithful for your encouraging words. You're so right . . . Maggies rule! Also thanks to Volunteer for selling me his well-loved Maggies & Myes and an M-K sub. They bring a big smile to my face. Wife is smiling, too, after some initial doubts about the "aliens" occupying our living room.
I've been lurking here for well over a year now, absorbing as much as I can from all of you. Listened to a few box speakers and Martin-Logans, but soon fell under Maggie's magic spell (even at the lower end; haven't heard a note on 20.1's or 3.6's yet). Thought hard about separates and major power amps as many here advise, but lusted after some of the latest bells and whistles and finally went with a Onkyo TX-NR807 when ShopOnkyo made a good closeout offer. As others have reported, this supposed "refurb" looks brand new. It's my first new receiver since the '60's. Could always add a power amp later, but so far I'm loving what I hear with the 807. However, I may need a college course to learn all of its features. The "textbook" runs 146 pages! Without the help of my good friend, Bill, a confident EE and NASA project manager, I would still be deciphering manual instructions instead of enjoying the music.
No plans for any real Maggie tweeks. I haven't even run the Audyssey MultEQ system yet. But keep them coming. I'll bookmark this thread, and, If I ever stop smiling long enough, may find the courage to try some eventually.
