Raising the MMG's to ear level and orienting them vertically. It made them image like their bigger cousins. I'd say they're about the equal of the 1.6's now -- bass shy, but better imaging and a nicer mid.
Or -- more an experiment than a mod -- orienting my Monsoons edge on to my ears, a few feet in front of me. One of the most extraordinary experiments I've ever tried -- the speakers disappear, the soundstage is vast, the sound takes on a natural quality one never hears from a speaker, no matter how good. There were problems as well, but it's made me change the way I think about stereo reproduction. I'm eager to follow the lead of Dawnrazor and try the experiment with the MMG's when they're set up again.
