new owner of MG-IIIas with questions

First of all, they sound truly wonderful. They are an obvious improvement over the modified SMGas. I am bi-amping the IIIas. I have a S500 e Threshold and an Adcom 5503. The Threshold is rated 250 @8, 500 @4 and 1000 @2. The Adcom is rated 200 @8, 350@4, and no spec given for 2ohm. The gain is the same on these two amps. Even though I should use the same power for both bass and the mid/tweeter combo, I don't have another amp of equal power. Since the mid/tweeter is rated 3 ohm and the Adcom doesn't have a spec for anything less than 4, I used the Threshold on the mid/tweeter. The Threshold is by far the better sounding amp. I'd prefer the majority of the frequency range be powered by this amp. I'm guessing that the Adcom contributes to some low frequency muddiness.

I'm assuming the Threshold is 750 @3 which gives me roughly twice the watts of the bass panel. Does this all mean that the mid/tweeter section is 3db louder? This also assumes the impedance is flat on both sections which I doubt is true.

Additionally, I'm blowing midrange fuses when I power up. I start sources first, then tube pre and finally the Threshold. The manual calls for normal blow 2.5 amp. Radio Shack has fast blow and slow blow. The clerk told me fast blow is the same as normal. I've not found anything to the contrary.

I do not have fuses in the SMGas. Yesterday I replaced both fuses and restarted but the Threshold was warmed up. This morning I replaced both and restarted without incident. At lunch I blew one of the two. I'm thinking I need to detach speaker cables, let it warm up, shut it down, reattach cables and restart. I have a kill-a-watt meter. Both amps and the pre are plugged into this. I noticed this morning the the amp draw decreased as the Threshold warmed up.

I am not blowing the ribbon fuses.

All suggestions appreciated.

Randy
