Every single choice we make is a narrowing of possibilities.
Let's roll time back a bit and look at how this began. We hired Dennis to do our windows and siding. While we were chatting one day about my borrowing a tool from his trailer, he asked me if I might want one of his trailers - along with some tools. My wife was standing there with us and her ears perked up right away. She realized that the trailer would permit me to unload some closets, cabinets and drawers. That was it - we were just going to buy one of his trailers (along with some extra tools).
One thing led to another and we started looking at garage plans. That concept grew until it would permit a spacious room above it. That morphed from raw space to a finished audio room. That mushroomed from 1.7s in the new space to 3.6s. Some friends started working on me to add a TV so we'd have a man cave for football season. I started thinking about how best to minimize the impact of that idea and that morphed into using a projector and motorized screen - up for listening to music. That obviously implied moving the HT to that room.
I could continue, but you get the point. What began as a $1500 purchase swelled to over $80,000. That puts a significant dent in our (money market) checking account. If keeping that figure under $100K requires some compromises, then I'm okay with that. I tried HT in a 2.0 setting and it just didn't cut the mustard for most movies. For every take there is a give, and we opted not to give up the surround - I am dumping the center and going phantom.
20.1s are not in my immediate future. Besides, as I said earlier, if I had everything I wanted, I'd probably just drop dead. I'd rather enjoy living with a few unrealized dreams - then again, the 3.6s are a dream come true to my ears ;-).
