I haven't been up to Audio Alternative in years, and I've been itching to go. We might drive up to Atlanta next weekend - hmmmm. What have you done?I poked around AA's website and found the projector I bought for the room (Runco RS-1100). It's listed on their website for $12,999.99 and I only paid $3,500.00 for one from Leland (Fusion Point) - it was a demo unit with about 300 hours on the counter, but he put a new lamp in it and I'm getting an as-new warranty (it's also a version 2). Otherwise, that thing would have been a budget buster.
That's my problem. I do have a budget and this project is approaching six figures - that's too much to swallow. I'm enjoying three day work weeks (okay, I'm enjoying four day weekends ;-), and I don't want to spend myself back into five day weeks. Each thing, like treating the room (@~$2K), doesn't sound like much, but there are so many of those little things that it's turning into serious money (as Andy joked - a money pit).
You simply wouldn't believe how small this project was at the outset, then my wife started getting into the idea of going further. So, I proceeded to stretch it until the dedicated room was to become a reality. That's when I mentioned how nice it would be to have some real (as I put it to her) Magnepans in that room. She didn't flinch when I told her about the 3.6s, but there are (were - already picked up three of them) also six more components to buy and none of them are cheap.
I'm not super rich. I wouldn't even consider myself kind of rich. I've never spent $5K on a pair of speakers before - that's exciting enough for me. Okay, 20.1s would be awesome. Maybe I'll buy a pair some day. It'll give me something to which I can aspire. Knowing my luck, if I got them next month, I'd drop dead a week later. Not buying the 20.1s now may just keep me living longer. How's that for some tortured reasoning?
