Re: Shakti Stone/Onlines Near Pentium CPU's

Steve, I think you miss the point. I've done single blind tests as well as subjective tests. I've even played the reverse psychology game trying to get a friend to pick the apparently better looking cable. Results have varied from a flip of a coin to near perfect picks. Of course, YMMV.

But a simple series of coin flips doesn't always come up with a 50/50 result. I've had a coin come up the same as many as 12 times out of 12 flips. So the "near perfect picks" doesn't necessarily mean any more than a coin coming up heads 12 times out of 12. So unless you're doing a significantly large number of trials, you're limited in the conclusions that can be drawn.

But my point is simply that some of the people commenting negatively have zero experience with the product. It's the same type of naivete that takes a couple of DBT tests and extrapolates those results to proclaim that everything sounds the same.

I haven't read every post in the thread, but the main argument seemed to regard the rather flimsy standards Shakti accepts as "proof." In fact, I can simply rephrase what you say above to illustrate the same argument that was being made:

It's the same type of naivete that takes a couple of dynamometer horsepower (or 0-60) tests and extrapoltes those results to proclaim that their product works as claimed.

Shakti's proclamations are no less tenuous, yet those making the DBT proclamations are ridiculed while Shakti's given all the benefit of doubt.

In any case, I don't believe one necessarily needs to have any experience with a product in order to rightfully question objective claims being made about it, or the procedures used to base those claims on.

And simply calling a claim into question is not the same as saying that the claim is invalid. That's one thing that irks me so much here is that certain individuals delusionally consider any questioning of an objective claim as an attack and become beligerantly defensive (and offensive) whenever anyone dares question anything.

I really don't have a 'dog in this fight' and am not really a tweaky guy, but I can imagine that some systems might benefit by a product that addresses problems with EMI. Sure, a system ought not to have EMI issues, but I'm realistic enough to think that not all products are prefeectly designed.

I don't recall there being any posts regarding possible benefits in audio systems. It centered around the claims of increased 0-60 times and horsepower in automobiles.
