In my case, teflon tape made a noticeable improvement. A friend of mine came over, and I played some music without mentioning the tweak. He is very familiar with the sound of my system, and he immediately noticed that the soundstage is much wider. He was like: "What happened here, how come the soundstage is so much wider now?" So it's not just my hallucination.
But it's not only the soundstage, many other facets of the sound reproduction improved with teflon tape tweaks. Much more prominent three-dimensionality, better resolution, improved dynamics, and overall more liquid, analog-like sound.
