Bear in mind that at no point is there any teflon at the contact points. At least the way I interpreted it, it is merely a cusion being provided at the base of the prongs and nothing more AFAIK.
If you ever heard of the buzz from AC feeder lines, I guess there is a lot of room for 60 Hz induced voltages/vibrations -- which must be very destructive to sound quality.
I thought of 'piezoelectric' effects which is probably improbable. Diode effects are probably much more likely. Basically, any 'crud' can be a diode!
