Read Bartc's post. And Bartc is correct. I actually also got to see inside a Walker Reference High definition link. Walker uses 10ohms. Al Sekela recommends the resistor value to match your speaker cable impedence. I have not experimented with changing the resistor values. The filters performed well on three system experimenting with 16 or so different speaker cables from many manufacturers.
I based the rule off of 10,000 like Walker and Al. The reason I used 10,000 is Al did actual testing (with proper equipment if I remember correctly) and experimentation with different values. When I first started experimenting with these filters I was not interested in re-inventing the wheel. I wanted too know if they worked, and what the filters would do. Then I went on and tweaked and experimented with them for the next two months.
