I see the layout with the grounds tied at CD as a stop gap test configuration only. If you like it that way you should definitely connect the two earths on a more permanent basis, ie without the CD player acting as one of the links in the ground current chain.Please see the other posts about recomended ground conductors. I think a nice fat hunk of romex would be fine for all but the most high end, but considering your many ground rod scheme you may opt for something better like flat braid with drain wire for example. I mean hey why not go all out since you did with the rods?
