Hey Joe,Glad to hear you are doing well. An indoor spinning bike would be a great way to train on your off months. Just make sure you buy a "Johnny G spinning bike made by Schwinn". As Schwinn just stopped amking them they command a preminm price but no other bike is worth buying IMO. I personally like the older models with the red front wheel and slip clutch as the frame seems to fit me a bit better. Besides being older they are cheaper. But you would be okay with the newer one with the black wheel too. There is a technique to riding but that will come later if you decide to get into it. For sure it will help with climbing in particular. I also consider riding shoes with cleats and a heartrate moniter essential. The heartrate moniter lets you know how hard you are working and keeps you honest. Interval training where you bring your heartrate way up and then see how fast you can recover is the best IMO. Just crusing along at a steady rate, like you would when really riding, isn't going to do you the most good for conditioning. Get to the point where you can recover from 170 beats per minute down to 110 in a minute or three and you will be on the right track. This is something my girlfriend does for a living, and I used to cycle, so I know a bit more than your average Joe.
I am enjoying the Fisher. The 400 seems to be a "best deal" amoung the Fishers. The unit was all original right down to the tubes and had been in daily use. Sounded good right off the bat. I am in the process of restoring it. Replacing the selenium rectifier and and some caps and so on. Everything is coming along fine. Let me ask your opinion on something though. After replacing the selenium rectifier of course my voltage is higher. Good for my output tubes but too high, I think for the 12ax7 heaters. Looks like the fisher 400 feeds two pairs of 12ax7's, in series. I ended up with about 13.3VDC going to the tubes. Sounds too high to me but some others ahve said no biggie. What do you think? I am thinking 12.3 or even a bit under would be best. Just hadn't seen any mention of this problem when replacing the rectifier.
Best wishes,
Russ
