RE: The best in both worlds ?

Well, it appears that this didn't age well. From 2010.

"This is the one upgrade to the 2441 that I can truly recommend. One of my old customers came by recently and we did a listening comparison between drivers with/without the Be diaphragms. I talked to him the next day and he said that he couldn't sleep very much that night. It is a much more cost effective than going to field coils. Of course if you don't have the bread to afford the Be diaphragms, just enjoy the Al ones. They will give you years of satisfaction. Bruce"

What is your rating book is saying on TAD4002 with adapters? Bought a pair cheaply from a turkey neck who said they had Radian substitutes and one is partially shorted. Being an idiot myself I took them apart (not easy actually) and in my infinitive wisdom I determined that the VC rubbed (it did actually) and partially shorted. Only the shortage of funds prevented me from immediate purchase of replacement dia. Only later I noticed that one diaphragm was marked as 16 Ohm and the other as 8...
Getting OEM JBL dias for 2440 is a tall order and the $1k expense better left for collectors.
It looks like JBL does market smooth titanium diaphragms for 24XX type of drivers
Also from a brief search 2450j phase plug was developed for BE diaphragm so it may be a better match for truextent dia then any of vintage drivers
