Hi Wojciech,
The TruExtent 4" diaphragm is a generic fitment for many drivers and that is one of its failings. There is no one JBL driver that the TruExtent IS optimized for. Also the type of BE used is not the best and the suspension is designed for very high power. It was not optimized for us, but for PA people interchangeability. Somehow it found its way immediately into the hands of DIY audiophiles.
The ONLY CD that the TruExtent has been optimized FOR is the ESD S-500 and J-500. ESD developed their phase plug around the TruExtent after the diaphragm was invented. ESD uses proprietary diaphragms in their other compression drivers, although they all have the same type of phase plug geometry (i.e., ESD S/J-8000, S/J-2000, S/J-500).
I would stick with the OEM JBL diaphragms for the 2440 and 375. I do not believe in the AquaPlas. Unfortunately, JBL never released a simple titanium diaphragm with metal suspension and without extensive structural suspension and dome reinforcements.
The 2450J has a fantastic phase plug. The OEM JBL 2440 diaphragm is a good match for this phase plug.
The JBL 2441 phase plug is inappropriate for hifi. The JBL 2440 is appropriate, but very few horn geometry synergies are available in my library. The JBL 375 should be used with the OEM diaphragm for excellent but outdated SQ.
