My music/living room has the following, and they are not all used at once but in various combinations when a JVC ambience synthesizer is used:Pair Tannoy Westminsters (hulking/brooding 300#ers)
" Tannoy DMT 12 II
" Acoustat 6 (aprox 30"w x 24"d bases and 8' tall)
" Beveridge 2 (petite at 15"d x 24"w x 7' tall)
" Dahlquist DQ10 w/Sequerra ribbon tweeters
" McIntosh XRT18 (excellent 20Hz acoustic suspension bass from about 2 cubic feet)Bedroom systems:
Pair Quad 63
" Altec CarmelHome theater:
3 UREI 813C as LRC (about 12 cubic feet, IIRC)
2 Polk bookshelves as surrounds
2 31" Fostex IB subs (see below)Workshop systems:
Pair Altec A7-500
" Altec 9844 (utility/pro version of Carmel)
" Altec 817B/515B X 2 + EV9040/288H actives (the best all around excepting the Acoustats, Quads, and Beveridge(best overall))On the way to a new owner:
Pair PE "69-cent wonder" 7' line-arrays EQed with McIntosh MQ104In closet:
Pair Bose 901 Series 1
" RtR 18You can see that I am of the "bigger is better" school, and although I don't like to listen to loud music, I like effortless and low distortion sound and lean towards dipole or constant/controlled-directivity systems, and that almost always means big. The largest "component" in any of my systems would be the Fostex true infinite baffle sub measuring 20' x 8' x 5' for a total of 800 cubic feet and good to below 18Hz. Believe it or not, I am happily married with 4 kids, a dog, and a cat or two...when it suits them.
