Hi.Such a 2-stage RIAA phonestage using one 7025 (twin triode) each channel with non-NFB type RIAA correction circuitry was published
decades back in the RCA Receiver Manual. With typical MM cartridge 3mV I/P it delivers 0.55V O/P.Recommnedation was made how to overcome long length of interconnects.
& relatively high O/P impedance.I am yet to read any other phonestage design so simple. Simplicity is a beauty - it applies to audio absolutely. I already get idea to improve this vintage design even more simple.
Surely it is not a "serious design mistake" as you suggested.
