"Matching" doesn't mean equal here.

Hi.

"Matching" is defined as "something corresponding to (colour, pattern etc)". (taken from Webster's New Dictionary)

In fact, for tube audio amp impedance "matching", the I/P impedance should always be higher than the O/P impedance of the driver stage. The rule of thumb is 5:1 or higher.

As impedance involves capactance, inductance & resistance, take a typical example of a TVC(transformer volume control) with its pretty low impedance when "matched" to a tube pre-amp I/P impedance of 100KR.

At the attenuation point of 20dB, the load appears as 10MegR
in parallel with the low capactance of a short interconnect.

So tweaking interconnects without the precision equipment (who ever
got it anyway) is to "match" NOT to equal the correct impedance to
obtain the flatest frequency response. It's is unfortunately done by our our ears. What else we should use otherwise?

This is scientific.
