Good question.

Hi.

I am not here to speak for whoever else, but only for yours truly.

Am I an audiophile I don't know & may not even close to be one if audiophile is solely judged by the brandnames of the equipment being usesd.

I love 'canned' music as much as I love live acoutic music performance (no PA reinforcement I mean). A church choir in a Sunday morning servce can be pretty gratifying to me as I value it as a easy soursce of live music reference.

So to me, an audiophile or not, considering all my DIY phonostages, linestages, & power amps, even speaker stands, are seated on 3-in-a-set tuned tip toes or steel spikes, I listen to music not brandnames, period.

Brandnames to me a just like someone named Tom, Dicken or Harry, or whatever, are irrelevant to what they will sound vs live music which is always my reference & my goal of my DIYs.

When we eat, our brain sense the food by a combining of taste, sight & smell. Who wants to get blindfolded & ear plugged to dine?

When we go to live concert, we enjoy the performance through our sight, hearing & feeling in the music. This is how our brain interprete our enjoyment via all these vital senses.

So, why should we blindfolded ourselves to listen to canned music at home to make sure the brandnames are not affecting our hearing ????

To me, any blind tests are man-made & is a far cry from being in accord from what our brain is sensing.

In fact, whenever I first drop in an audio boutique, I simply put on my test CDs & listen for a few minutes to see if the sound comes is in line with some basic sonic perspectives. If not, I simply walk out. If it does sound nice, then I start to ask details of what equipmnet was on there. This is sort of 'blind test' in a natural way.
