RE: there is a guy in this forum

Hi Bill, how are you doing since your post to me was deleted for violating forum rules I would just like to say I am glad to see you are not banned.

And since that post was deleted, I thought I would answer the question you asked me " how do you check polarity with a multimeter"

First you need to know there are two types of digital multimeters inexpensive homeowners' type and expensive multimeters the type professionals that work a trade would use. So, what's the difference? the more expensive professional digital multimeter has their own power source and by power source I do not mean the battery both good and bad multimeters use batteries, but good multimeters can send voltage out of the leads to check for continuity this same type of multimeter can check polarity and will display polarity as + positive or - negative right on the display really easy and convenient.

If you do not have a good digital multimeter that can send out voltage to check continuity/polarity that is ok, you can take a double or triple A battery tape some wires to it and connect them to the drivers' terminals positive to red terminal negative to black terminal then touch your red lead to the red terminal black lead to the black terminal look at the display if it is reading + 1.5 volts then the polarity is correct if the display says - 1.5 volts the polarity is reversed.

If your digital multimeter has a setting with a diode symbol with propagation waves around it then you have a good professional multimeter and do not need a battery to check polarity. I use a good professional multimeter, so the battery is not needed like with a cheaper homeowner's type of digital multimeter.

I hope this clears up your misunderstanding how a multimeter is used to check polarity after all this is what multimeters are made for.

And that is so funny you mention my friend Romen B aka Romy the cat!!! Yes, I love Romy, his site has some fantastic information if you're a speaker designer it's impossible to ignore his website. He gave me some great advice in the past that helped me a lot. And he acted like it was no big deal, but it was to me he helped me a lot back in the day when I was building a lot of horn systems using vintage drivers. A lot of people dislike Romy because he is smarter than them, I always laughed at those people. I am the exact opposite I always want to be around people smarter than myself because I love learning. This has always made me different than the average person. The average person always wants to be the smartest in the group funny thing is there is always someone smarter.
