I have an SCD-1, and felt about it as you do your 777: it needed "something." I decided to go the DAC route. I'm extremely happy with my MF Tri-Vista 21, and the SCD-1 makes an awesome transport (I'm connected via glass Toslink, as the Tri-Vista won't lock into the coaxial signal from the SCD-1; it sounds sensational anyway).This of course doesn't do a thing for the SCD-1's SACD performance, but I listen to red book far more often, and at any rate I'm satisfied enough with the SACD performance.
The big plus for me was that I didn't have to pack up and ship the SCD-1, which would've been enormously difficult for me.
