Suggestions for a Sony SCD 777ES Upgrade? Too many options...

Hi,

I've been a reader for a long time and just joined actually to ask this. I'm the original owner of a 777ES that is about 4yrs old give or take. No problems ever with this player. But I feel I need to improve my source at this time. I'm running Bryston 7B's monos to Von Schwiekert Gen II's thru a BAT VK 5i. I realize I've got some older gear, but I think the 777 is the weakest link right now. Maybe the speakers? I'm missing an openess/transparency of the system. Bass could be tighter and I'm wanting a bit more midrange for things like the saxaphone or female vocalist or acoustical jazz.

But boy, I've read tons of posts/reviews, here in the Asylum mostly, of all the various upgrades incl Modwright, VSE's, and Audiomods and they all have had great things written about them. Plus, there's the option of just buying a really nice DAC as another possibility. Of course no way to compare all the possibilies, which leaves me to reading about them. I'm not here to start a 'my mod is better than your mod' war, but I am a bit oveerwhelmed by all the options. I'd do all of them if I had the money and they all would improve the player hehe

Anyway, I'm hoping for some kind of guideline about how to proceed. If anyone has any suggestions, I can't tell you how much I'd appreciate the assistance!

I hope I provided enough information and look forward to any replies,

Fore
