I listened to the Q700's a little more and discovered something very interesting. Acoustic tracks came to life way more than they ever did on my Sony headphones. Really great micro details. I switched back and fourth several times between the Sony and the Q701 and I could hear all of the same sounds on the Sony, but with the AKG I could hear more air between the instruments and there was a much greater sense of 3 dimensionality.
The deal breaker came when I tried to listen to harder tracks. I kept going to songs that I knew were packing a lot of musical heat and the AKG's just could not deliver. The sounds were all there and clear, but I felt like the rock concert was on the other side of the wall, not all around me. In this area the Sony's were the clear champion, placing me right in the middle of the action. Full bodied electric guitar sounds and great drums beats coming right at me and not off in the distance like the AKG's.
