Don't have the DAC 2.1 myself (still haven't made up my mind :P ) so I have no idea what type of system synergy problem it may have but may be you can look at older CD transports from Teac (i.e. the models w/ those VRDS transport mechanism), Pioneer Elite (the ones with the stable platter where you put your CD on it upside down), or any CD transport/player with a Philips CDM-9 Pro (lots of high-end companies use this mechanism back then). Most of these should now be under $1000 mark so you can experiment with them without breaking the bank. Of course because of their ages, esp. the one w/ Philips transport mechanism so they may be DOA. YMMV. I have a few CD players with various Philips transports from diff. era w/o any issue, though, touch wood...
If your DAC 2.1 is equipped with the USB option you can just hook it up to a PC. Use a (quiet) laptop/macbook and rip your CDs using a lossless CODEC. Get an external USB/firewire drive if you have a large collection. Disk space is cheap. Since the USB interface is buffered I would think jitter is not a concern (I could be wrong).
