The best advice I can give is to have an in home demo of the Mac. You will like one better than the other.
Short of that, I'd go with the Mac. I have the 3.6's and ran them with Mac monoblocks for years (now using Pass's XA monoblocks). The Mac/Maggie combo is nice and the "powerguard" feature may save you a ribbon tweeter. Having a tube preamp can be super nice.
Some power info you have gathered is incorrect. As has been pointed out, the Mac does not double its power into 4 ohms. On the Sunfire, if you put 800 watts on the woofer and 800 watts on the mid/tweeter, you do not get 1600 watts. If the Sunfire can be bridged for 1600 watts, that's another thing and "issue".
