I've always found that the further away you can get the speakers from the walls and still maintain a reasonable setup (equilateral triangle, reasonable distance to the speakers, etc.), the better. For example, soundstage depth increases as you increase the distance from the rear wall up to 15 feet. In the end, I think it's something you have to try in your own room, since there are always going to be tradeoffs. But if I were building a room from scratch, I'd think big -- 15' behind the planar, as many feet as possible behind your chair, and at least 30' across, not so much for the bass (although big is good for bass) but because at 50 msecs (I'm assuming you orient the speaker so as to eliminate the first reflection from the speaker side wall, so we're talking round trip to the opposite wall) the initial arrival time of the lateral early reflections starts to get closer to a concert hall's.
