I remember in his column in Stereophile, Sam Tellig once told of how speaker manufacturers would setup their speakers in his room. Invariably they would all place them in nearly the same spot that offered the flattest frequency response. He would always move them out to create a realistic stage even with the loss of bass.
I understand his and your choice completely. And with subs, well it just makes sense. And fwiw that is why I cold never get my head around the Logans and Eminents that would put attach the bass with the panel. The best place for the bass is never the best for mid and imaging.
So now thanks to a curve ball an need to use my "dedicated" room for sleeping, I will now have my subs right underneath my panel. Be careful what you make fun of!
Though my subs do have some kind of room correction, and seem to do just fine in the non optimum position.
We will see how it all gels when I finish.
