Other than the obvious dilemma of a/c anomalies which are for most, a necessary evil we all have to deal with, the single most significant influence of ANY audio system is the very space it is situated within, usually for punters around here, a household room.
Yet it never ceases to amaze me how little is done to address this KEY factor.
I mean there are those spending inordinate amounts of money and time fiddling with aspects which have marginal benefit in the GREATER SCHEME OF WHAT'S THE REAL LIMITING FACTOR in the systems potential !!!
Like getting a pedicure when you have gangrene.......
Perhaps it's because the acoustics aren't a tangible object, but my rant for today is:
anyone out there who wants to profoundly improve their listening experience, DEAL WITH THE ROOM FIRST.
If it means looking up somebody in the phone book who deals in acoustic treatments, DO IT :-)
Many places, who usually deal more with home studio recordists etc... will give you the opportunity to try products on a returnable basis, as obviously there is no simple predetermined fix.
From my extensive experience, once you've actually had the opportunity to hear your gear with even a rudimentary dose of room treatment of the most impromptu arrangement, you will then begin to realise what can be possibly be achieved, without buying mega dollar cables, tweaks, tubes, isolation racks etc..etc....
Don't get me wrong, these all have there place, AFTER the gangrene has been eradicated !!!!!
