...and to continue on with that thought, the only way one will hear the inherent unique sonic characteristics of one's speakers is to ensure that said speaker system and listening position are correctly implemented within the listening environment or quite simply you are hearing the room's impact on the speaker performance as opposed to the speaker's ability to accurately load said listening space. I have a client that would pop into the hi end AV retailer I worked at, endlessly trying to resolve sibilance issues with his system. Several amplifier changes did not resolve his problem and he wasn't willing to address the speakers themselves. Finally I had the opportunity to visit his condo and lo and behold the sibilance issue was directly attributable to incorrect speaker placement exacerbated by floor to ceiling windows. Appropriate voicing of the ROOM provided the correct speaker placement with a balanced frequency response from several seating areas beyond just the sweet spot.
There is no way one can judge ANY sysytem, component or tweak unless the speakers and listening position are optimized Have to say that correct listening position/speaker placement's biggest impediment is the WAF...
