Since we're always dealing with all the variables mentioned, it seems that it's hard to know this without an anechoic chamber and a spectrum analyzer of sorts too.
FWIW, I've continued tweaking AC and filtering schemes. I'm more than ever convinced that we don't know what our systems sound like until we control for this factor seriously, along with vibe control and acoustics. Jeez, it seems we are listening to the power line more than the recording...
