Sure, the few brave souls who did this all touted the sonic results. It does make sense, but theory and practice don't always match up.
Key thing is: YOUR SAFETY and your insurance. If a fire broke out in your home, regardless of whether it was anywhere near this dangerous kind of installation, you can bet your insurer would deny your claims if they found your hardwired setup! And you can also bet that they'd be looking for any excuse to deny your claim too.
Here's another thought: Do you never anticipate wanting to unplug your rig or try another power cable? We have rare lightning here in the SF Bay Area, but when a thunder shower turns up once or twice each year anywhere around here, I unplug my whole rig. Sorry, but it ain't worth the expense and heartache of losing it to a lightning strike, even if the odds of that are really really slim. You wouldn't be able to do that, and the odds of lightning are higher elsewhere in this country. And would you really want to have to unsolder your PC in order to swap it out to try a new one sometime?
This level reads as extreme in my book. But it's your life, amigo....
