Oyaide R1/P-004 Vs Bare Wire Connection

There is a popular saying that the best connector is NO connector, i.e bare wire twisted together. In this case we are comparing one of the best connectors the Oyaide R1/P-004 to the bare wire joined together. Ideally the bare wire should win but is this really the case ? Has anyone tried this ?

I ask this because I am in the process of buying the R1 receptacles and some P-004 connectors for my DIY power cords. I am using four of these power cords in my system and if I plan to buy the best quality connectors, the cost can get really substantial and unreasonable.
I have read a lot of informative posts on connectors here on AA from inmates like Duster, Kenster, Jon and quite a few others, I hope someone would have tried this bare wire tweak as well. Please enlighten !!!
