Your "tweaking" sounds more like re-engineering and a good engineer can always improve his product if money is no object

Engineers are forced to design components to a specific marketing price point and product launch timing -- they have to compromise when cost is an objective. The best engineers design products with a lot of performance per dollar cost, but not the best performance possible if money was no object.

If your re-engineering work has specifically improved one aspect of digital audio that bothers you and me too (sibilance), then you are a good engineer. I'll assume the parts you used cost more than the parts replaced -- if they cost less than the replaced parts, then you are a great engineer.

It's always more believable when someone claims a very specific improvement rather than claiming "improvements so huge even the wife could hear them." That also seems insulting to the wives!
