Are concerned about sound quality, annoying others in the rooms below, or stability of the speakers and the possibility of tipping? As far as sound quality is concerned, the only way to know for sure what is best is to experiment. I generally prefer to dampen vibration when speakers are placed on bouncy floors rather than couple the speaker to the floor. Coupling causes the floor to act like a big drumming surface that will radiate its own sound and muck things up. I have my speakers on Symposium Svelte Shelves. The speaker sits flat on the shelf to maximize surface are contact. The inner layer of the shelf is a foam core that dissipates the vibration as heat (rubbing of the foam molecules together) instead of re-radiating the energy as sound. I bet the Auralex subdude works in the same manner.
