I was thinking of them while i was out...

...this morning.
I started thinking of core units within bands after the Stones thing, and I think FM are one of the great British rhythm sections, knowing exactly what to leave out. Like the core of The Stones. I might be able to extend this to Led Zep. I would contrast these with, say, The Who where Moon was never exactly shrinking and in my opinion always thought of himself as lead drummer!
Don't get me wrong, he was one of rock's greatest drummers. But The Who operated in a different way.
Now FM had any number of line-ups before they effectively became a backing band for Buckingham Nicks.
I was always amazed Christine Perfect allowed herself to be put in that position since she could write sing and play Nicks into a cocked hat.
Perhaps that was the money as well.
Although I really like Lyndsey Buckingham, The Mac period I like is the triple lead period even if it was a long time ago and didn't last long.
Ownership of a name, like any brand, is a difficult area and I don't really blame people who put a lot of effort into something for trying to keep hold of a help to making money. If Coca Cola can change recipe and still call it coke, if a sports team can change line up, why can't a band change line up?
Guarantees endless arguement here, doesn't it????
