after about 5 years of the 565pre/555II combo, i chanced upon a used arc sp3a1 for cheeep. i had always thought the 555II was holding th sys back but when i put the arc in place of the 565, my jaw dropped.
wide open at the freq extremes, and for the first time--at dynamic extremes.
since then ive sent the thing to minnesota for upgrade to sp3c specs and im happier than a pig.
the 565 hasnt seen electrons since the return of the arc. perhaps in the bedroom or maybe its for sale. i understand they respond well to IC chip swapping but havent ventured down that path.
