Go for a tube pre, a decent tube pre with a decent SS power amp can be quite enchanting. I'm using a Bottlehead Foreplay (really really souped up) into an Acurus A100. If your amp doesn't have extremely high input sensitivity (the Acurus does, I just got the FP quiet enough for critical listening about an hour ago) and you can solder, you can get a lot of performance out of this linestage kit.
