I had one of the early 555 Adcom's & used a Cary SLP 70 tubed pre-amp with it. Plenty of gain & a good phono section for a decent price. It was a great match. I sold the Cary for $500.00 earlier this year and saw a modified one for $700.00 not that long ago. I had the Adcom pre-amp that came out the same time as the amp did & got rid of it very quickly. A lot of problems with it & the combination was harsh. I then traded up from the 555 to a pair of 565's still using the Cary. Since then I've changed everything in my system completely but I used the 555 for 2 years & the 565's for 8 years.
