RE: Delta-Sigma vs. R2R

I use the Ayon Skylla 2 DAC, which uses BB PCM1704K R2R chips from the late 90s.

You need a good R2R DAC, IMO, to get that weight.

The Aries Cerat DACs use multiple AD 1865N 18 bit chips and these have the most substantial piano I have ever heard. Very realistic despite the "antique" chips.

Your Adcom and BAT both use the Burr Brown PCM63K 20 bit R2R chips. This is one of the best DAC chips ever made. I think it is not so surprising that you chose two players with the same DAC chip (probably similar receiver chip and digital filter as well...but don't know for sure). The Adcom has SS output and the BAT tube output BUT what you love about the sound is similar for both machines.

For redbook cd it is hard to do better than these DAC chips. They were very expensive to buy for the manufacturer compared to D/S chips.
