Home Digital Drive

Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

Most manufacturers don't talk about it but voicing is real.....

On flip side ;)

In what I think is marketing genius, R2R DAC makers persuade their customers that dozens of discrete inprecisely matched resistors with limited bit-depth in R2R DAC designs is most important because it is harder to do than using decades proven DAC chips. This plays to a certain nostalgic appeal ideal for those who grew up on the smooth but limited dynamic range and detail of vinyl.

Based on personal experience the brand and model of DAC chip matters less than the rest of the finished product. These chips have all surpassed the specs necessary for outstanding D/A conversion. I've heard excellent and bad sounding ESS and AKM based DACs.... leaving the surrounding components more important than the chip itself.
